Man Killed in Bartow Crash Fell Asleep at Wheel

The Floyd County resident traveled down an embankment and hit a tree just south of Adairsville and north of Cartersville.

A Floyd County man killed in Bartow on Sunday in a single-vehicle crash is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Kenneth Eugene Ozier, 32, of Rome, was driving a white 1984 Ford Ranger northbound on Highway 41 in Adairsville just north of Eagle Mountain Tail, according to GSP Sgt. Davenport of the Cartersville post. The truck about 2:45 p.m. traveled off the west side of the roadway and struck a tree, he said.

The truck went down a 20-foot embankment before hitting the tree and apparently was heavily damaged, according to the Bartow County Scanner Facebook page. GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said Ozier's truck traveled down an embankment after running off the road in a curve.

The crash closed both the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 41 for several hours, according to a Bartow County Sheriff's Office alert, and motorists were asked to use Old Highway 41 as an alternate route.
