Georgia Power Dedicates New Water Research Center at Plant Bowen

Georgia Power today is dedicating its new Water Research Center at Plant Bowen near Cartersville.  

The new, state-of-the-art center will focus on finding new ways to reduce, conserve and improve the quality of water that is returned to the environment from power plants, according to a press release. The center, described in the brochure above, is made possible through a partnership with the Electric Power Research Institute, the Southern Research Institute and other generation companies.

It will be used to test technologies and find more ways to protect water resources because water is an essential component in the generation of electricity, from steam-driven turbines to hydroelectric power, the release says. Finding new ways to protect water resources and use them more efficiently is a priority for Georgia Power. 

The Water Research Center will focus on seven distinct research areas of study such as moisture recovery, carbon technology water issues and solid landfill water management, among others. The first-of-its-kind research facility is expected to yield industry-wide insights that will help minimize the use and increase conservation of this valuable natural resource.
