On the article Georgia Highlands the Key to a Brighter Tomorrow in Cartersville

ReplyLOVE this!!!! I couldn't agree more that higher education is no longer something the people of our community can afford to view as a luxury, but it must be viewed as a necessity. With the job market harder than ever to break into, a Bachelor's degree has, in many ways, become the minimum requirement for quality employment. Georgia Highlands is undoubtedly one of our community's greatest assets, even if only as a stepping stone into larger institutions like Kennesaw State or any of the larger universities. I think that if Georgia Highlands would accelerate their efforts to expand their curriculum to encompass a large selection of Bachelors Degrees, it would be the shot in the arm our community needs to truly thrive in the educated and affluent world.

On the article An Outpouring of Care, Help and Hope

ReplyI personally haven't heard anything about victims being charged for assistance. I think maybe lines are getting crossed somewhere, which is perfectly understandable amid all the chaos of the previous weeks. Having talked to many many people who have received amazing assistance from multiple relief movements across the city, I think the efforts put together by so many caring and generous individuals has been amazing. Cartersville has really pulled together and shown that when worse comes to worse, we're a town that truly knows how to take care of its own. After so much heartache, we should all stay focused on the positive and try to steer clear of the negative drama that almost always finds a way to creep in. Keep smiling Cartersville! : )

HI GMF! Feel free to nominate your son to be a Patch Whiz Kid! I'd love to highlight some kids who've volunteered to help clean up after the storm! Email Brande or I with his name, his school, his recent accomplishment/ good deed, and a few sentences about him and his interests!

Very well said, Layla. I'd have to say you just summed up the TRUE American spirit the way it was meant to be. Thank you. : )

This is too funny and too true, James!!!! I'm turning 25 in a month and a lot of this sounds pretty familiar. I've found myself running to the pharmacy to buy an emergency box of hair color to cover up those unwelcome silver strands, and somehow, four hours of sleep just doesn't cut it anymore. It's definitely a strange phenomena when you find yourself waking up in the mornings thinking less and less about what mischief your going to manage that day, and more about which career routes are going to yield the strongest benefits, the number of bullets on your resume and that ever-present twinge in your back that wasn't there in high school. :)
But I do have to say, it's all pretty exciting. Great column. :)
