Elected Officials, Some New, Sworn In

Bartow County in 2013 gets a new sole commissioner, school board member, district attorney and tax commissioner.

Bartow County's newly-elected and re-elected officials were sworn in the last day of 2012 during a courthouse ceremony. Set to take office in January, County Commissioner Steve Taylor, Tax Commissioner Steve Stewart, District Attorney Rosemary Greene, Clerk of Court Melba Scoggins, and Bartow Schools board members Anna Sullivan and Fred Kittle are among officials who took their oaths of office. Others include incumbents Sheriff Clark Millsap, Chief Magistrate Judge Tom Moseley and Probate Court Judge Mitchell Scoggins. Kittle, who will represent District 4, says he has notified the Bartow County Republican Party and the 11th District Georgia Republican Party Executive Committees he has resigned as an officer of the party. 2nd SACS Complaint for Bartow School Board, Superintendent

Two Bartow residents are asking the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to investigate Bartow County school board members and Superintendent John Harper for alleged policy and standards violations.

Updated Dec. 10 AdvancED Vice President of Communications Jennifer Oliver confirmed her organization received the second complaint. "The complaint has been forwarded to our Accreditation Team for review," she said. "They will assess it as to whether there is a violation of Accreditation Standards or policies." Original Report Discontent with the Bartow County school board continues, as two local residents have filed a second Southern Association of Colleges and Schools complaint this year. Residents in Georgia, Other States Want To Secede From U.S.

The move, which is gathering steam, is being done in the wake of President Barack Obama's re-election.

Residents of Georgia and more than a dozen other states have filed petitions to secede from the United States, according to media reports. Residents of Alabama, New York, Michigan, Texas and other states have filed the petitions under the "We The People" program, featured on the White House website, according to the Huffington Post. The Georgia petition, which already has more than 22,000 signatures, reads in part: "...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..." Bartow Schools' Budget, Career Academy, Jobs on Kittle's Agenda

Former Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce chairman Fred Kittle beat out incumbent Wanda Cagle Gray for the District 4 seat on the Bartow school board.

Incoming Bartow County school board District 4 representative Fred Kittle sat down with Cartersville Patch on election night. The former Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce board president and active Republican beat out Independent incumbent Wanda Cagle Gray with an unofficial 56.68 percent of the votes. Kittle, who has a background in sales and business, was honored by State Sen. Barry Loudermilk, R-Cassville, with Senate Resolution 1134 in a March meeting of the Bartow County Republican Party for his volunteer service and longtime employment, The Daily Tribune News reported. Now, he looks to help the county school system tackle continuing budget shortfalls through efficiency and with the help of knowledgeable community members…

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, according to projections.

  President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, according to network projections. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. Mitt Romney Wins Georgia

Voters in Georgia on Tuesday cast their ballot for Mitt Romney, giving him the state's 16 Electoral votes, according to early results.

In a move that fell in line with expectations, Mitt Romney was projected to win Georgia’s 16 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Barack Obama. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Republican candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times. Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in Georgia and spent more time visiting the Peach State to raise money. The state has been a Republican stronghold in recent presidential elections.  The economy was a key issue for many voters in Georgia state, which has had a higher than average unemployment rate. Bartow County Election Results 2012: Kittle, Moseley, Battles Win

Republicans Fred Kittle, incoming District 4 school board rep, Chief Magistrate Judge Tom Moseley and State Rep. Paul Battles, R-Cartersville, edged out Independent and Democratic opposition.

Updated 8 p.m. School board candidate Fred Kittle is cautiously optimistic he will win the District 4 seat in Bartow, based on early and unofficial results, according to State Sen. Barry Loudermilk, who is at the Bartow GOP's watch party in Cartersville.
