Emerson Man Killed in Single-Car Crash

He lost control of the vehicle in a curve on Old Alabama Road, and it struck a culvert and overturned, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

A Bartow County man died Sunday when his car left the roadway and overturned. The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. when Dustin Lee Morgan in a curve lost control of his 2006 Chrysler, which was traveling westbound on Old Alabama Road, left the road, hit a culvert and overturned, coming to rest in the median, Georgia State Patrol officials told The Daily Tribune News. Born in Cartersville, "Dusty" Morgan was 26 years old and engaged to be married, according to his obituary. Child, 2, Hit by Car in Cartersville

The child was in the front yard of a residence in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when someone at the residence backed out of the driveway.

Cartersville police say a 2-year-old child was hit by a car in front of a local home sometime Saturday afternoon. The child was in the front yard of a residence in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when someone at the residence backed out of the driveway, striking the child and knocking the child under the car, Capt. Mark Camp said.  "The child suffered a severe laceration to the head, but according to EMS is stable," Camp said about 5:20 p.m. "As a precaution, the child is being taken by air ambulance to Atlanta, most likely to Children's Hospital." That's why I think the back-up-beepers and or the GPS back vision should be standard equipment on every vehicle. Cartersville Woman Killed in Old Alabama Road Crash

A female passenger was thrown from the car after it left the roadway and overturned several times in Bartow County. In a separate incident, seven people were hurt in a crash involving three vehicles in Cartersville.

A Cartersville woman was killed early Friday in an one-vehicle crash on Old Alabama Road when the car she was in ran off the road, flipped several times and landed upside down near Pumpkinvine Creek. The driver, Richard Wesley Kelley, 42, also of Cartersville, was hurt, while his passenger, Taryn Elizabeth McCormack, 24, was thrown from the car and died as a result of the 1:20 a.m. wreck, The Daily Tribune News reports. Bartow County Scanner reports a police officer discovered a trail of debris indicating a car wreck, and after a brief search, found the car upside down on the bank of the creek. The driver had walked to a house off Bates Road to get help for his wife, whom he could not find. She was later found in the water. GSP troopers …

Water Line Upgrades Set Near Walgreens

The city of Cartersville is upgrading the water lines along Tennessee Street between Church and Howard.

The city of Cartersville's Water Department today began upgrading water lines to accommodate the new Walgreens, now under construction at the corner of Tennessee and Church streets. Work on water lines between Church and Howard streets is expected to take place throughout a three-week period, and the city has notified surrounding businesses.  Officials expect no traffic delays and any water outages will take place after business hours, they say.  The city says the improvements are part of its Tennessee Street project and are taking place at this time due to the addition of the Walgreens. Georgia State Police: Don't Drink and Drive

Eight people were killed last year in Georgia traffic crashes that occurred between Christmas and New Years Day.

In 2011, eight people were killed in traffic crashes in Georgia between Christmas and New Years Day and there were 401 people were arrested for driving under the influence. No question that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, from shopping for that perfect gift to attending countless celebrations with family, friends and co-workers.  This year the Christmas holiday travel period began Friday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday night, Dec. 25. The New Year’s holiday period begins Friday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday night, Jan. 1, 2013. Both holiday periods are 102-hours long. Woman, Child, 4, Killed in Fiery I-75 Crash; Police Seek Trucker

A Calhoun woman and her passenger died in the incident that closed all northbound lanes and the exit of Interstate 75 at mile marker 293 in Cartersville.

Updated 11:30 p.m. Authorities identified the crash victims as Maria Tabuena, 29, of Calhoun, and her passenger, Melina Trichell, 4. GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said they were traveling northbound in a 1998 Ford Expedition in the right lane of Interstate 75 at exit 293 about 1:25 p.m. when the tractor-trailer changed lanes—from the center lane to the right lane—and struck the Expedition in the left side with the right side of the trailer. The big rig continued northbound as the Expedition ran off the road, struck a guardrail, hit an overhead sign support post and then became engulfed in flames. The first big rig left the roadway and hit a concrete pillar holding a sign on Interstate 75 near Cass-White Road in Cartersville. The second truck hit a sign that fell.

Boy, 11, Steps into Traffic, Suffers Serious Injury

The boy, who was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital with a possible broken leg, and his father were attempting to cross Cassville Road in Cartersville.

A boy who stepped into the side of a moving vehicle in Cartersville was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital with a serious leg injury, according to the Georgia State Patrol and Bartow County Sheriff's Office. The child, Ean Xavier Jobgen, 11, of Cartersville, and his father were attempting to cross Cassville Road at Dean Street when about 4 p.m. he stepped into the side of a northbound Jeep Wrangler, according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright. Jobgen was airlifted to Scottish Rite children's hospital with a possible broken leg. The driver of the Jeep, a local man, will face no charges, Wright said. Cartersville firefighters say a person was struck by a car on Cassville Road near Oakdale Apartments and airlifted for treatment.

Original Report A person walking on Cassville Road near Oakdale Apartments was struck by a car about 6 or 6:30 p.m. and airlifted from an nearby park for medical treatment, according to in Cartersville Fire Department officials.
