Stores in the shopping center on East Main Street where The Dollar Tree is located were evacuated.
A spokesman for the Cartersville Police Department said that a bomb threat being investigated earlier tonight at The Dollar Tree on East Main Street appears to have been a hoax. Lt. Mark Camp said that words containing the threat were found written on a wall in a restroom at the store but that nothing was found during the investigation. Stores in the shopping center were evacuated while officers werer on the scene.

Booth Western Art Museum is set to honor the life, spirit and legacy of one of its own. Entertainer and museum manager Doc Stovall was killed last month in an early-morning, two-car crash. Police have not filed charges against the other driver. The tribute concert is set for Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. in the Booth Ballroom and free and open to the public. It will celebrate Stovall's influence in preserving the cowboy culture, and will include performances by members of his band, The Tumbleweed Cowboy Band, several people reciting cowboy poetry, and gun tricks and humor by Emcee Jim Dunham, who also serves as the Booth's director of Special Projects. A woman who was hit by a train was responsive and walking following the incident on Carter Street near Railroad Street, Cartersville Police Department Lt. Mark Camp said in an email. About 6:19 p.m., the woman and a man were near the railroad tracks, and she was hit by the train as it passed. Camp said the pair were intoxicated. Police found the woman, who apparently left the scene after sustaining a laceration to her head, at North Erwin and Carter streets. She was treated by emergency medical crews and taken to Cartersville Medical Center with an injury not expected to be life threatening. Her male companion was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Police have not identified the two, but expect tomorrow to release more information.

Police, still investigating the traffic crash that claimed the life of Doc Stovall, say they'll determine if any charges against the other driver will be filed after the investigation is complete. The Booth Western Art Museum's Entertainment and Sponsorship manager and a Lithia Springs resident, Doc Gordon Stovall, 74, died following the two-vehicle accident early Wednesday morning. Despite emergency medical crews' efforts, Stovall passed away shortly after the 7: 15 a.m. crash at the intersection of Felton Road and North Tennessee Street. Cartersville Police Department Lt. Updated 8:45 a.m. The accident scene is clear. Camp said the deceased is an elderly man. Updated 8 a.m. The fatal accident at N. Tennessee St. and Felton Road occurred about 7:15 a.m. and involved two vehicles, according to Camp. One of the drivers was deceased at the scene. Original Report Cartersville police are investigating a fatal crash at the intersection of Felton Road and Tenneessee Street, Lt. Mark Camp said about 7:30 a.m. Authorities have closed Felton Road eastbound from Jones Mill Road to Tennessee Street and say avoid the area. Camp said he expects to release further information in a couple hours, but confirmed one person was killed in a traffic accident.

Cartersville Police Department is giving the public an opportunity to learn the hows and whys of law enforcement operations. In May, the agency is set to host a session of its Citizens Police Academy, a four-week program that is free to the public, but in which space is limited. “Participants will be exposed to traffic crash investigation, criminal investigation, evidence collection, the polygraph, law enforcement firearms and simulator training, as well as what it really takes to become a police officer,” Chief Tommy Culpepper said in a press release.
