Cartersville native Margaret Archer Zimmer says rapid growth and increased traffic in the area have necessitated a traffic light at the intersection, according to change.org, where she started an online petition, which has more than 300 supporters. "Drivers, both old and young/experienced and inexperienced, are required to cross fast-moving traffic (coming off of I-75) while also watching for other drivers, opposite of them, who are attempting the same dangerous driving maneuver," Zimmer wrote on change.org. Downtown Cartersville has a new logo, adopted by the Downtown Development Authority board and designed to coincide with the city of Cartersville's brand. Sporting 4-Way Lunch, Young Brothers Pharmacy, the old train depot and The Grand Theatre, the "wonderful" logo updated for better brand recognition will be used in new brochures and advertising campaigns and to enhance the city department's website, said DDA Manager Tara Currier. The Cartersville man not allowed to flip, toss and twirl his signs on public property in Cartersville is headed to Germany to train a group of sign flippers, according to his Facebook page.
The man who was at odds with the city of Cartersville over his sign flipping business for some time has gained national, and even international, attention for his tossing and twirling abilities. Cartersville native Julian Falkenstein started his business about four years ago, advertising for other businesses in Cartersville by flipping their signs on sidewalks or busy roadsides. Two years in, citizens' concerns for safety prompted officials to take a look at ordinances governing The Sign Flipper's main activity, The Daily Tribune News reported. Although Falkenstein addressed city leaders several times, the council, by a 5-to-1 vote, finally decided last year that the twirling or rotating of signs would not be allowed on public property. …

The city of Cartersville is upgrading the water lines along Tennessee Street between Church and Howard.
The city of Cartersville's Water Department today began upgrading water lines to accommodate the new Walgreens, now under construction at the corner of Tennessee and Church streets. Work on water lines between Church and Howard streets is expected to take place throughout a three-week period, and the city has notified surrounding businesses. Officials expect no traffic delays and any water outages will take place after business hours, they say. The city says the improvements are part of its Tennessee Street project and are taking place at this time due to the addition of the Walgreens. It took three individuals being killed (2 of whom were children under the age of 8) before the intersection of Hwy 41 & Acworth Due West Rd down in Cobb got fixed several years ago.
