Man Slips on Ice, Shoots Himself
He was investigating a noise with a handgun ready to fire when he fell.
The snow-turned-ice has wreaked havoc on travel, but it also has proved to be a danger to those on two feet. A 78-year-old Cedar Creek Road man accidentally shot himself Wednesday when he fell on a slippery surface. Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies were called around 10 p.m. and found the man alert and responsive. He said he stepped onto his porch with a cocked handgun to investigate a noise but slipped on the ice, and the gun went off. The man, who sustained a wound to the upper chest, was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.
