The 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period ended at midnight with 19 traffic fatalities reported across the state, but none of those happened in Cartersville or Bartow County. The Georgia State Patrol investigated 11 of the 19 fatal crashes that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and midnight. The 19 traffic fatalities is one more than in 2011. State troopers investigated a total of 622 traffic crashes during the period that resulted in 263 injuries. Of the 11 traffic deaths investigated by troopers, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in four of the crashes, and seven of the victims were not using seat belts. Georgia State Patrol troopers will be out in full force this Thanksgiving holiday travel period, on the look out for impaired drivers and other violations in an attempt to reduce the number of traffic accidents. “We know from past experience that speed, alcohol, and failing to use seat belts are the primary contributing factors in fatal crashes,” said Colonel Mark W. Walmart has announced it will open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, and offer holiday doorbusters while supplies last.
