New Principal for Cartersville High
The city school board approved a current Cobb County alternative school's principal to head Cartersville High beginning in July.
City Schools leaders at a work session last night named Cartersville High School Principal Jay Floyd's replacement. Steven Butler, who now is principal of Cobb County's Oakwood Digital Academy, was selected by a committee including a school board member, administrators and teachers, and was favored by the school council, The Daily Tribune News reports. Floyd told his staff he would leave the system in June, but—except for confirming the announcement—declined to elaborate. Last month, administrators began the search for a new principal to begin the 2012-2013 school year. Butler, who beat out four other candidates, served as a teacher, assistant principal and department head prior to becoming principal of the alternative school in Marietta. …

Who were the teachers that "Voted" for Butler? Were they the ones who were hired since the current superintendant was hired? Sounds like a dictatorship to me. This is NOT the same Cartersville school system I grew up in. It is very sad what is happening, do we really want our school system to look like Cobb and Atlanta public schools? I sure don't, it's bad enough that I'm thinking about private …   more ›
