SACS Complaint Dominates School Board Discussion

Chairman Davis Nelson addressed concerns in the complaint, which was filed by fellow board member Wanda Cagle Gray.

A complaint sent by one member of the Bartow County Board of Education to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools dominated discussion during Monday night’s school board meeting. Board Chairman Davis Nelson said a number of issues have been brought before the board in the last one-and-a-half years. “The majority of this board has sat quietly and sort of watched and listened to a multitude of accusations, visions and predictions,” Nelson said. “We remain quiet because we know what was going on was about one person and that person’s disdain for the new board members.” But, now is the time to speak, Nelson said. “Our children and our staff have been placed in harm’s way by these actions,” he said. “Please understand that we will not …

One not so good choice was in this board appointment. Laws are not a matter of opinion. Dr. Nelson's statement on the appointment had so many issues that we had to issue a response. This law is crystal clear; the board just cannot bring itself to admit it made a mistake. Bartow Schools' Gray Files SACS Complaint

Board member Wanda Cagle Gray said she had four concerns that she listed in the complaint against her fellow board members.

A member of the Bartow County Board of Education said concerns brought to her by several of her constituents spurred her to file a complaint against her fellow board members with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Wanda Cagle Gray said her complaint was filed based on the appearance of wrong doing. “I feel if there’s a presence of wrong doing, and if I don’t do anything about it, I’m just as guilty as whoever is (doing it),” Gray said. A representative for SACS did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment. Two of Gray’s four concerns center around the use of school system facilities.
