UPDATED 7:15 p.m.: Names listed in a news release have been corrected to match funeral home information. Two Cartersville women and a 27-day-old infant were killed in a Christmas Day traffic accident that also injured four other people, according to a news release from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The crash occurred Tuesday at 5:47 p.m. on Georgia Highway 53 near Mauldin in Gordon County. The crash killed April Nacoale Winters and two passengers in her vehicle – Tanika Latrice Ackies, 21, of Cartersville, and 27-day-old Niyla Raine Ackies, also of Cartersville. The fatal, two-vehicle accident happened on GA 20 about 1:45 p.m. Monday.
Updated: Tuesday, 8 a.m. Authorities have identified the woman killed in the two-vehicle crash as Martha Ann Smith, 60, of Cartersville. Monday, 11:30 p.m. Although Georgia State Patrol officials have not released the identity of the victim of a fatal Monday crash, they say it is a 60-year-old woman who lost control of her Kia. According to the public information officer, the woman was travelling east on GA 20 near Wilderness Camp Road, lost control and her car rotated. The right rear of her car struck the front of an Acura driven by a 55-year-old Memphis woman, who was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities expect to release the deceased woman's name following confirmation of the notification of relatives.

A two-vehicle crash Friday morning in southern Douglas County claimed the life of a Cartersville man. According to the Times-Georgian, 21-year-old Michael Allen Bonner was driving a 1992 Honda Civic east on Highway 166 near Chapel Hill Road about 10:05 a.m. His vehicle crossed the center line and struck head on a 1999 Peterbuilt dump truck driven by an Arnco, GA, man, the newspaper reported here. The coroner pronounced Bonner dead at the scene.
