A Clarke County judge rejected a request from William Heaton, who has been charged in the Emily Bowman hit-and-run accident, to remove his ankle monitor and move to Bartow County.
A Clarke County judge rejected a petition from the man accused of running over Emily Bowman in an Athens hit-and-run accident to remove his ankle monitor and leave Oconee County. A judge last week denied William Wilson Heaton's request to remove the monitor and move back to Bartow County with his grandfather, according to WSB-TV. Heaton lived in Rydal and worked in the farming industry when Bowman was hit the night of Feb. 16, according to his Cartersville attorney, Tony Perotta. WSB-TV reported Heaton made the request so he could return to work in order to pay for his legal expenses. But he must remain in Oconee County with his mother. Bowman, a former Kennesaw State University student and Woodstock High School graduate, was hospitalized…

Emily Bowman, 19, hasn't spoken, but her eyes are open, relatives say.
She has been off the ventilator and breathing on her own for a few days. Her eyes are open and she's responding to stimuli, reports the Athens Banner-Herald . And now, Emily Bowman, 19, hospitalized since a hit-and-run accident almost three weeks ago, is moving to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for intensive rehabilitation. Bartow County resident Wilson Heaton, 22, of Rydal, is the suspected driver who fled the scene and abandoned his red pickup truck nearby. He surrendered to police Wednesday night to face charges including DUI and serious injury by vehicle. A judge set his bond at $50,000 and said he'd have to move, if released. Bowman had been in a coma at Athens Regional Medical Center since the Feb. 16 incident on Athen's Oak Street. …

Police continue gathering evidence in the case of Emily Bowman and likely will charge the 22-year-old local resident.
Updated 4 p.m. Attorney Tony Perrotta tells Cartersville Patch that Wilson Heaton, who apparently grew up near Athens in Oconee County, has extended family in Bartow County, where he works in the farming industry. Perrotta said Heaton would turn himself in if charged in connection with the alleged hit-and-run in Athens. "We've offered to surrender since the Saturday it happened," Perrotta said, adding he "can't say" whether Heaton was driving the red pick-up truck that struck Emily Bowman and left the scene. "We're not running, we're right here in Cartersville." Perrotta added the Heaton family is praying for the 19-year-old hit-and-run victim. "The family holds daily prayer vigils for Emily and is praying for her recovery," he said. …

Athens-Clarke County Police continue their investigation into a hit-and-run that critically injured a 19-year-old Woodstock woman, and the truck involved is registered to a Cartersville man.
As Athens-Clarke County Police continue to piece together a case to make an arrest in the hit-and-run that left a Woodstock woman in a coma, a local man may be in their crosshairs. Emily Bowman, 19, a former Kennesaw State University student, was in Athens last weekend to celebrate the birthday of a friend when she was hit by a pick-up truck that fled and was found abandoned not far from the scene. The red Mazda pick-up truck is registered to a Cartersville man, but police have neither released his identity nor the names of any suspects. But police have found evidence that could suggest the suspect most likely was drunk at the time of the incident, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Police found a bottle of liquor inside the pick-up …
