Court Clerk to Seek Re-election

Gary Bell, who says customer service and easy access to information would continue to be priorities, has a challenger for the post in a former employee, Melba Scoggins.

A 12-year incumbent says he'll go up against one of his former employees, who announced a bid for clerk of Superior Court following her resignation. Gary Bell said in a Friday press release he intends to seek re-election for the post he's held since 2001. Former supervising clerk Melba Scoggins left to pursue the office's top job, according to campaign manager Melanie Collier. Both candidates are running on the Republican ticket. "I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Bartow County as your Clerk of Superior Court," he said in the release. Prior Jury Clerk Seeks Office's Top Job

Melba Scoggins, former supervising clerk for Superior Court proceedings, has announced a bid for Clerk of Superior Court, the office currently held by Gary Bell.

In addition to the four vying for Bartow County's top post and a sheriff's race between two well-known lawmen, the 2012 primary election could pit an incumbent against one of his former employees. Holding criminal and jury clerk positions supervising Superior Court proceedings for 27 years, Republican Melba Scoggins announced a bid for the top job in the office—clerk of Superior Court. She recently left the clerk's office and is no longer an employee. "Though Scoggins' experience and attention to detail are to her credit, she also prides herself on customer service," according to the press release announcing her run.
