The specialty cake and cupcake shop wants to make your special occasion sweet and beautiful.

Heaven Scent Cakes in West End Commons specializes in custom cakes for all occasions.  Cartersville Patch recently sat down with owner Tera Gore to learn more about what her small business has to offer the community. Here's what we asked and she answered: Q: Tell us a little about your shop. Do you call it a bakery? A: We are a custom cake shop. We’re not a full service bakery, which doesn’t have to be a negative thing, because that means we specialize in what we do and do it to the best of our ability. We’re also a cupcake shop. Our custom cakes are our specialty. We do a lot of work with sugar art, fondant and gum paste, which you don’t get at most of the other bakeries around here. Q: Who are your clients? Martin Luther King Day kicks off with a bang at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

The celebration of service has begun and is set to continue today. A surprised Linda Wilkins Everett took home the Drum Major Award during Sunday's candlelight service hosted by the MLK Celebration Committee of Bartow County at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Recipients of the Anne Carter Johnson Scholarship were Malcolm Johnson, who is attending Valdosta State University; Stacey Turner, who is attending Fort Valley State University; Steven Bloom, who is attending Georgia Highlands; and LaTanya Pasley, who is attending the University of West Georgia.

MLK Celebration to Begin Sunday, Continue Monday

Cartersville's Martin Luther King Jr. celebration is set to include a candlelight ceremony, youth rally and march.

Keeping with its annual tradition, the MLK Celebration Committee of Bartow County is set to hold Sunday and Monday events commemorating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the King holiday, a day of service that includes honoring those who lead and serve local communities. In Cartersville, the celebration begins Sunday with a candlelight church service and ends Monday with a program following the Brotherhood March.
