Family of Boy, 13, Wants Another Look at Death Investigation

Robert Taylor III, 13, was an eighth-grader at Bartow's Woodland Middle School when he was shot and killed in Cartersville in what police called an accidental shooting involving another boy, 14.

The family of a local boy killed a few days after Christmas two years ago is asking the Bartow County Sheriff's Office to take another look at what authorities determined was an accidental shooting. Robert Harvell Taylor III, 13, then an eighth-grader at Bartow County Schools' Woodland Middle in Euharlee, died Dec. 29, 2010, at a friend's Freedom Drive home in Cartersville's Oakland Heights area, the Rome News-Tribune reported. Sheriff Clark Millsap at the time said Taylor, whose family and friends described him as a quiet, sweet boy with a love of baseball, was killed as the result of an accidental gunshot involving another young boy, whose name was not released, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Police: Candice Piper Met Her Killer Online

Cartersville authorities say suspect Deandre Hightower is a drifter with identifying documents issued in several states.

Authorities investigating the stabbing death of nursing assistant Candice Piper, 29, say she met her killer online and he could be involved in other crimes across the country. Deandre Davoughin Hightower, 20, has been charged with murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and two counts of false imprisonment in connection with the Tuesday incident at Alexandria Landing apartments. "There's some hallmarks here that tell us it could be connected with something else," Chief Thomas "Tommy" Culpepper said, adding his department will consult with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program, which analyzes violent crime for possible links across state and local jurisdictions and includes behavioral analysis …

Man, 20, Charged with Murder in Stabbing Death of Woman, 29

Police say the homeless man from Cartersville had been staying at the woman's Alexandria Landing apartment four days.

Updated, Wednesday, 7:45 a.m. Authorities have identified the victim as Candice Piper, 29, of Cartersville. They expect to release more information at a 10:30 a.m. press conference. Updated 5:20 p.m. Cartersville police arrested Deandre Davoughin Hightower, 20, of Cartersville.  He has been charged with murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and two counts of false imprisonment.
