Carmike Bomb Threat Suspect ID'd

The FBI believes the man "is no longer a threat," the movie chain's spokesman said.

The man behind a bomb threat that put Carmike locations in Cartersville and other parts of metro Atlanta on alert last Friday has been identified, the spokesman for the Columbus movie chain said in a one-sentence statement. "The FBI has identified the person responsible for the bomb threats that occurred last Friday, August 17, 2012 involving Carmike Cinemas and believes he is no longer a threat," Carmike spokesman Terrell Mayton said Thursday. The statement did not mention if the suspect had been arrested. Carmike Bomb Threat Leads to Theater Search

The movie theater in Cartersville is one of several locations across metro Atlanta affected by the "non-specific" threat.

Only two employees and no customers were inside Carmike Cinemas in Cartersville this morning when a bomb threat led to evacuations and searches of several movie theaters, Bartow County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said. Company officials asked local authorities to conduct a search after Carmike's  corporate offices in Columbus, GA, received what Rogers called a "non-specific threat." "It didn't include a location," Rogers said. "So they didn't know where the bombs could be." Nothing suspicious was found in the Cartersville theater following the 9 a.m. threat, Rogers added. Police: Bomb Threat was Hoax

Stores in the shopping center on East Main Street where The Dollar Tree is located were evacuated.

A spokesman for the Cartersville Police Department said that a bomb threat being investigated earlier tonight at The Dollar Tree on East Main Street appears to have been a hoax. Lt. Mark Camp said that words containing the threat were found written on a wall in a restroom at the store but that nothing was found during the investigation. Stores in the shopping center were evacuated while officers werer on the scene.
