Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ suffered a skull fracture during a game last week when a line drive hit him in the head. Tell us if you think Major League Baseball or any other leagues should implement helmets for pitchers.
"I don't remember seeing [the ball]. Just immediate loud ringing in my ear. Just pressure on my ear, and I was on the ground. That was kind of it.” That, according to an Associated Press report, was how Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ described the line drive that hit him in the head during his team’s May 7 game against Tampa Bay. The impact left him with a skull fracture and a knee that was tweaked as he fell to the ground. Happ’s injury has brought attention to other pitchers who have sustained similar injuries in the past. Major league pitcher Bryce Florie was struck in the right eye by a line drive more than a decade ago. According to Paul Newberry of the Associated Press, Florie would pitch only seven more games after that …

Cartersville Schools Superintendent Howard Hinesley said he'll recommend the board change at least one policy concerning sports booster clubs.
In a report highlighting weaknesses in Cartersville Schools' booster club operations, CPA Ronald Mesimer pointed to unusually low profit margins and unsound cash handling practices. His report came as a result of complaints within the clubs. At a special called meeting the board hired Mesimer to conduct the review, which is not an audit. Superintendent Howard Hinesley said he will recommend the board install a policy requiring bid purchases separately by school, but the system does not agree with Mesimer's suggestion the board approve only fundraisers with higher profit margins. Mesimer's report along with the results of a related survey conducted by the system are attached to this article. Hinesley told The Daily Tribune News review and …

The Wildcat senior was the right man in the right place for a win against Cass this week.
Jacob Moore has been everywhere for Woodland High baseball. No better example came Tuesday night against Cass as the Wildcats ran their record to 6-4 overall, 4-1 in Region 7-AAAA in nipping the Colonels 5-4 at home. Trailing 4-2, Moore held off Cass for the final three innings. Then with bases loaded, a mishandled fly ball left off Moore’s bat sent three Wildcats across the plate and the home crowd into an unexpected celebration. “He’s been one of our top players for the past few years. He can go out on the mound and basically take over a game [as a pitcher],” said Woodland head coach Corey Gochee of his staff ace. “He contributes to the team in so many ways.” As a leader, Moore has organized players-only workouts to keep teammates sharp…

So let's just ban the game all together as well as any other sport or activity that could potentially cause injury or accident! Good grief what a ridiculous thing to require and regulate more and more of our lives! If a player choses to do so let them but players of sports are more than aware of potential injury and assume that risk when they choose to participate. The business of sports has …   more ›
