Following ongoing controversy over the appointment of Bartow County Board of Education District 5 representative Anna Sullivan, the Bartow County Republican Party unanimously passed a resolution calling on the school board to void its vote and leave the seat empty until July's special election. GOP leaders say by law Sullivan's seat, which was left vacant by Larry Parker's resignation, should have been vacant until filled in an election. The local party also opposes a property tax hike school system officials proposed in a round of budget cuts, including layoffs and additional furloughs, to offset declining local and state funding. Katherine, that is a a good idea. The more people that contact officials that might be able to convince the local board to follow the law, the more likely it becomes that the board will listen to reason and do the right thing.
