Advocates for Children Hosts Inaugural Jingle Jog

The 1.4-mile fun run for all ages and levels of runners precedes Cartersville's Christmas parade and benefits Advocates for Bartow's Children.

Advocates for Bartow's Children is tying on jingle bells to host its first-annual Jingle Jog fun run in Cartersville in December. Partnering with the Cartersville Exchange Club, runners will lead the Cartersville Christmas parade along the parade route and then settle in with thousands of onlookers to ring in the holiday season. Sponsored by Gary Fox, CPA and McDonalds, Jingle Jog is a 1.4-mile fun run for all ages and levels of runners. Participants are asked to dress up in their wackiest holiday gear and prizes will be awarded to our top three favorite costumes and the overall winner of the race. Each runner will also receive bells for jingling down Main Street, a long-sleeved signature T-shirt and a sweet treat at the end of the race. …

Local Wins Statewide 4-H Award

Mary Clayton Gilbert's $1,000 Leadership in Action prize will help fund Advocates for Bartow's Children’s annual Every Child’s A Star talent show.

Former Bartow County and Georgia Distinguished Young Woman Mary Clayton Gilbert, who finished in the top ten in the national competition, has won the Georgia 4-H Leadership in Action award. But unlike the other awards, she won't use it attend the University of Oklahoma to study in the school of Musical Theater.  Gilbert this year served as volunteer chair of Advocates for Bartow's Children’s annual Every Child’s A Star talent show. The $1,000 award is earmarked for the 2013 production, and will be spent on a first-class microphone and sound system for the show and to help publicize its 20th anniversary. The competitive award was granted recently at the 70th-annual state 4-H Congress, and is sponsored by 4-H alumnus Jayson Dukes to …

Music, Corn Hole Tournament Planned for Friday

The Rockin' on the River Concert event is scheduled for the eve of this year's Duck Derby.

Four local musicians will cover a variety of popular songs Friday at the 6th Annual Rockin’ on the River Concert. In addition to music by Freeflight, the event at the Riverside Day Use Area will include a single-elimination corn hole tournament, food and kids activities. And, there will be ducks. The event, sponsored by Cletus T and Bert Tilley, is planned by Advocates' Young Professionals and will be held on the eve of the Advocates for Children's Duck Derby. Music begins at 6 p.m. Spaces are still available for this year's corn hold tournament. The cost is $25 per team of two, and those interested in signing up for the tournament may print out a registration form by visiting www.advochild.org. Advocates for Bartow's Children is asking for the community's support and participation in its community-wide photo adventure.

Advocates for Bartow's Children is asking members of the community for support via participation in its Share the AdvoLove campaign, a community-wide photo adventure to display positive messages of why Advocates' programs make a difference in Bartow. Friends, supporters and neighbors participate by: Photos will premier at Advocates' May 11 Rockin’ on the River Concert at Riverside Day Use Area and be distributed for display this summer in local businesses. "Everyone and anyone is encouraged to participate! Local Celebs Set for Polar Plunge

Radio personalities and a Bulldog punter are among those jumping in an icy pool on a snowy day to raise money for Advocates for Bartow's Children.

With near freezing temperatures expected Saturday, a group of local celebrities are set to brave the icy, cold water of Dellinger Park's pool in an Advocates for Bartow's Children fundraiser. Cartersville High School football coach Frank Barden and punter Collin Barber, who is headed to play between the hedges; a group in The Wizard of Oz costumes; and WYXC-AM 1270 radio personalities are among those participating in Polar Plunge.
