Is the "Southern Poverty" Law Center an unbiased expert on the subject? Just asking. ItRead More seem they are the go-too liberal think tank on an "right wing extremist" group. I wonder if they keep a dossier on Al Sharpton's group or the New Black Panther Party?

Frank thank you for finally asking a rational question. They may try to claim the defense statement,Read More however, the evidence is what speaks louder. The shooter will always have to prove 3 things to be innocent 1) jeopardy- they have to be in danger i.e. the other person has a weapon. 2) ability- the shooter has to prove the other person had the ability to inflict harm. 3) opportunity- the shooter has to prove the other person has the opportunity to complete the harmful act. In simple terms if a person has a knife says he/she is going to harm you and is 50 feet away, he/she has proven jeopardy and opportunity but at that distance they do not really have the ability but shorten that distance to 10 feet or less then that is a different situation. Like I said above the evidence will show proof.
paul April 24, 2014 at 07:33 pm
Jason, I am assuming that you wrote your post in haste, or perhaps on your mobile device becauseRead More the wording is confusing to me (or perhaps it's my mental ineptness). It would be helpful to this conversation if you would re-word your statement. Also, I have a question specifically for you. In going back over your posts in this thread, you stated at 7:48 am today, "I have used my personal protective device 12 times at least in the defense of others, not to drag this out, but 2 times out side a bar once out side a school 3 times outside of churches." My question to you is what the heck do you do or who do you hang around with to put yourself in these situations? You have'd to pull guns on people outside of a school, bars and churches!?! I've lived nearly a half century, lived in several cities, including in some shady areas of those cities, and served in the military, and I've never been in the situation where I had to pull a gun on anyone.
Jason D Reitz April 24, 2014 at 07:48 pm
Paul Like you I have lived almost half a century and I cannot explain other than the good Lord hasRead More put me in the right place to protect others as needed. like you served in the military and currently with law enforcement (part time as a hobby). My day to day has me in many different neighbor hoods and areas of the country. I have Spec Op training and pay attention to everything around me all the time. i don't look for it but I do not turn the other cheek like so many people do today. Paul no matter you personal view which is none of my opinion I will not force my views on you or expect you to take them as your own, but if I saw you or anyone held at harms way I would still protect you, that is what a real American does, (my granddad great granddad and Dad would have said " that is what a real man does" but they were the generation of WWII and not many like that exist anymore we all are to self absorbed in our own little worlds myself included to some aspect. I have multiple comidations from EMA and law enforcement for helping others. I just try to follow the way my Lord Christ would want me to do and that is to help others. on the firearms issue I have enjoyed my arms more to play and target shoot and train others than in defensive situations. If you would like more info ask I try to just keep it short for the post

I don't disagree with you that we're becoming less and less a free country but it's wrong to blameRead More democrats alone. It wasn't dems alone that passed the patriot act. It hasn't been dems alone that have been re-uping it since it was passed the first time. On how bad Hillary will be as a president. Every president is bad in some ways. Reagan raised taxes more than a dozen times. Bush took us to war on two fronts with no way to pay for it. Clinton signed DOMA and DADT. Obama gave away the farm in order to get the Affordable Care Act passed. Papa Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans. Sure Hillary will be a bad president in some ways.... they are all bad in some way. I can tell you this much though, any president is going to be a worse president when the publicly stated goal of the opposition is to obstruct that president at any and all opportunities. The dems did it to Bush. The republican'ts are doing it to Obama. It's like Palestine and Israel, they'll fight to the death out of spite and habit, neither one of them knowing which one threw the first punch and not caring because winning is the only goal. What America needs are citizens that go into government for the good of the country instead of the good of their party.
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 03:03 pm
Oh, one last point on your last post B. Dub. "Hillary presidency combined with a DemocraticRead More Congress." Ain't gonna happen. Republicant's have gerrymandered the states to absolute death. They have the House for the foreseeable future and they have a good chance at getting the Senate. I can't guarantee you who's going to win in 2016 but I can very well guarantee you that no one party will take executive and legislative branches, both.

Bob West April 24, 2014 at 06:20 pm
@ eddie, I wouldn't mention any specific phone-calling service in case any other arseholes areRead More looking for tips. But for better or worse, those calls are traceable. They have "add-ons" that can fool your friends, but certainly not the NSA. BTW, that phone service was bought by Microsoft a couple of years ago- so much for any illusion of confidentiality. By using it, you "opt in" to give up your privacy, just like with G-mail. Using a computer to make a prank call is a dumb move in itself. Any computer transmits a wealth of information. Non-smart phones are a lot less traceable than anything else. Have you ever seen how many items advertisers and other web sites use to uniquely identify your computer? They can't tell your name but track your unique computer. It's called "computer fingerprinting." As soon as you give your name at a web site they track, they've got you. Check this site sometime to see how unique your computer is-- https://panopticlick.eff.org/ .... I suspect that nobody's putting much effort into tracing this call, because in the big scheme of things, they've got more serious things to deal with. (Unfortunately, unlike our local PDs.) Shame this idiot got so much publicity from his crime. I think the glorifying news "perp walk" should be stopped in virtually all cases.

@Michael Hipp 1. You've somewhat misinterperted the meaning of that commandment. While to covetRead More something would be to desire or to want something this commandment goes much further. The meaning is more closer to wanting or desiring some thing to the point of behaving in such a way that would unjustly benefit you at someone else's expense. There is nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself or better your lot in life so long as it is not done in an unjust manner. 2. When you attempt to redefine something as major as marriage to fit a narrow need, do you not think it would be appropriate to have everyone weigh in on this? 3. You did not understand what I stated. The Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court was, by her own admission, considered an activist in the gay marriage movement. However she was straight. The point is that she favored a favorable outcome, was not impartial, therefore she should have recused herself. 4. The response this will be interesting. Perhaps I should not have used the word "disorder" as it has a negative connotation and this thread is about marriage and not about the idea of being homosexual. Not meant as an insult and apologies if it was taken that way. I heard it here and in other discussions that those who are gay claim they were born that way. So in layman's terms my conclusion would be be that your brain is "wired" differently than others. Would we be in agreement with that?
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 06:48 pm
YOU: ". You've somewhat misinterperted the meaning of that commandment" ME: Oh please.Read More Dude, don't try the interpretation thing with me. For, literally, any verse you can bring up in any holy book, I can find you ten people with ten different opinions. It says don't covet - we covet as an economy - that's MY interpretation and I know just as much about the bible as any laychristian alive. YOU: "When you attempt to redefine something as major as marriage to fit a narrow need" ME: Bullshit. The meaning of marriage has been in continual change since it's inception. It used to be about cementing property rights only, no romance at all. The woman used to be property of the man. And guess what, there were Church sanctioned marriages between men 1,000 years ago. Get off your high horse about heterosexuals owning marriage - it's a flat out lie. YOU: "You did not understand what I stated. The Chief Justice of the Massachu" ME: Considering that you said something I misread - this is granted to you. That makes no difference though. Marriage Equality is written into the constitution of the United States in more than one amendment. If it hadn't have happened in MA then it would have happened somewhere else. YOU: "perhaps I should not have used the word "disorder"" ME: I am a human. You are a human. That's all that needs to be considered. Your brain is "wired" differently than mine and it's "wired" differently than everybody else on the planet. Your brain is as unique as your fingerprint. Do not talk to me about differences because the whole human experience is a spectrum of feelings/thoughts/experiences. We are different in a million ways and we're the same in a million ways. That your sky daddy tells your that I am worthy of death is, literally, the only reason that you make a big deal out of it. Homosexuality is as natural as heterosexuality in every respect. When you show me what it is about your brain that makes your heterosexual then I'll show you what it is about my brain that makes me gay. You are no more normal that I am, you're no more abnormal that I am. FINAL WORDS: I hope that I got across on the gay thing how deeply I feel that it's much to do about nothing.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup!
