2 of 10 Holiday Traffic Fatalities in Bartow

Eight fatal traffic crashes claimed 10 lives across Georgia during the 78-hour Labor Day holiday travel period.

Ten people died in traffic crashes across Georgia this Labor Day, and Bartow County saw two of the fatalities. 's count for the holiday travel period began Friday at 6 p.m. and ended Monday at midnight.

A one-vehicle crash Monday on U.S. 411 near Kingston , both passengers in the Chevrolet Trailblazer that left the roadway about 6:45 p.m., went down a steep embankment and hit several trees.

A total of eight fatal crashes across the state were reported by police in Cobb, Gwinnett and Henry counties and troopers in Douglas, Toccoa, Valdosta and Madison, in addition to Cartersville.

During the holiday travel period, GSP troopers investigated 373 traffic crashes which resulted in a total of 230 injuries, and five of the fatal crashes.

They arrested 240 people on charges of driving under the influence, issued 983 citations for seat belt violations and recovered six stolen vehicles.
