Padres, Indians, Dodgers, Phillies Win in Tourney

Cartersville Little League's double-elimination tournament continues this week.

Cartersville little league played four games Tuesday in the second day of the double-elimination tournament. Here are the results:

Padres v Crackers

Padres starting pitcher Bryce Jones had a dominating performance Tuesday,  pitching 5 2/3 innings with 14 strikeouts before being relieved by Jacob Frye to finish off the Crackers 8-5 early in the afternoon.

Jones got started early, striking out the side in the first inning and Roderick  Winburn got the bats started for the Padres, hitting a triple to knock in Bryce Jones for the first run. Taylor hit a single to knock in Winburn to give a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

The Crackers got it going in the second inning with scored runs by Blake and Levi to tie it up, but the Padres with a great base running regained the lead at the end of the second with three runs to make it 5-2.                                                      

In the fifth inning, the Padres got started with a double by Bryce Jones, then a single by Roderick Winburn knocked in Jones. Another single by L. Winburn added another run — before with good base-running — Winburn added the final run of the  inning to make it 8-2.

In the final inning the Crackers made a rally, with a lead-off triple by Watkins that brought up Austin Lunde who hit a two-run home run resulting in a score of 8-4. A single by Josh and good base running added one more run for the Crackers before the Padres made a pitching change with Jacob Frye to relieve Jones and put an end to the rally, giving the Padres an 8-5 win.

Indians v Tigers

In another early afternoon game, the Indians jumped out big putting up eight runs in the first inning and adding one more run in the second to make it 9-0 at the end of two. The Tigers tried to rally in the third putting up three runs, but the Indians were just too much, adding four more runs before the game was called in the fourth with the final score of 13-3.

Dodgers v Braves

In a late afternoon game, the Dodgers with a strong hitting performance got up early on the Braves and never looked back, beating the Braves 19-3.

In the first inning the Dodgers bats were hot, led by Spencer Dickey who hit two triples with three RBIs, sparking a 10-run inning right off the bat. In the second, Tanner Jordan got it started for the Braves with a single, then on a sacrifice fly by Christian Odell scored Tanner Jordan for the first run for the Braves. Also in the second, Reese Brideau for the Dodgers had a double which knocked in three runs before two more runs knocked in to finish off the second with a 15-1 score.               

The Braves tried to keep going with two runs scored by Christian Odell and Brodie Faulk, but in the end the Dodgers were just too much. The game was called in the fourth with a final of 19-3.

Phillies v Colts

In the other late afternoon game, the Phillies with great defense made quick work  of the Colts, beating them 10-2 in six innings.

In the first, the Phillies scored four quick runs to start off the game and added another one in the second inning. The Colts got on the board in the third inning, then the Phillies got back started in the fourth, adding just one run to make it 6-1 at the end of four.

The Phillies blew it up with four big runs to start off the fifth inning, then to close the fifth, Austin Davis makes a sliding third-out catch to end the inning. The Colts added one more run in the sixth inning, but the defense of the Phillies and the pitching of Jake Hacker was just too much for the Colts before Cason Willis closed it out for the Phillies with a final score of 10-2.
