Have a Ball at Dellinger Park

Get your kids involved in the fastest growing sport in Cartersville!

It’s not too late to get your child signed up for the Dellinger Park Summer Youth Tennis Camp.

In addition to a great form of outdoor exercise, the class is an opportunity to learn valuable skills such as teamwork, self-confidence and following instruction.

“Tennis is a lifetime sport so it’s great for kids to join when they’re young,” said Tennis Director J.P. Vidour. “They develop a lot of hand-eye coordination and it’s great cardio exercise. The kids always make a lot of friends and have a lot of fun.”

Vidour said the kids learn lots of technique, strokes and shots that really give them an advantage when starting the sport at a young age. The kids play lots of games for coordination and movement as well. Many of the children end up coming to the camp year after year because they have so much fun, Vidour added.

Once registered, the kids are divided by age into two groups, Pee Wee Camp for children ages 4 to 8, and Beginner and Intermediate Camp for children ages 7 to 15.

Pee Wees meet from 9 to 11 a.m. the week of July 25 to 28, at a cost of $85 per child.

The Beginners and Intermediate class will meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the weeks of July 18 to 21 and July 25 to 28, at a cost of $150 per child, per week.

At each class children are divided up by fitness level and ability in order to gain the most advantage from the course. The camp is meant to teach the basics of tennis, giving students the opportunity to learn how to anticipate the ball, properly swing and hold a racket, footwork and rules of the game. Kids will have the opportunity to play matches with one another and have plenty of one-on-one practice times with instructors.

There are also tennis programs offered over the course of the school year so that kids can stay in practice and really excel at the sport. Once they reach a certain level of skill, they can opt to join a high performance group and participate in tournaments.

“We’re really promoting the sport of tennis for the whole community,” said Vidour. “It’s the fastest growing sport in Cartersville and a great sport for families to get involved in with each other.”

Dellinger Park also offers a variety of tennis classes for adults.
