A day on, not a day off,” Cartersville's organized Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, is:

Sunday, Jan. 15
What: Candlelight Service
When: 6 p.m.
Where: Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 147 Jones St.

About: Dr. Angela Harris of Dalton State College is the keynote speaker. Special music and singing will be provided by The MLK Community Choir. Also, the Drum Major Award will be presented to a Cartersville or Bartow County citizen(s).

Monday, Jan. 16
What: Youth Rally
When: 10 a.m. to noon
Where: St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 130 Jones St.

About: All youth are invited, welcome and encouraged to participate and be involved through song, skits, dance or poetry. For more details, call 678-368-3583.

What: Parade
When: 2 p.m. (Participants are asked to assemble at the Civic Center at 1:15 p.m.)

About: The parade will continue down Main Street to the Frank Moore Administration Building, where a wreath laying ceremony willl take place and Mayor Matt Santini and Commissioner Clarence Brown will address the group. Grand Marshals will be Rev. and Mrs. Horace Lee Jones.

What: Brotherhood Program immediately follows parade
About: The festivities will climax at the Cartersville Civic Center with a Brotherhood March Program in which Rev. Reginald McDaniel of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Calhoun will speak.
