Black Hawk Down in Cartersville

The Purple Hurricanes defeated the Cedartown Bulldogs on a ceremonial night honoring veterans and public servants.

As the Canes continue their 13-3 record this year, they had one of the most memorable nights on Monday, April 11. The Canes featured the great works by our public servants and the people who have served in the U.S. Army.

Bartow County's police, sheriff, fIre and emergency medical services departments were all presented at in the pre-game ceremonies. At the beginning of the ceremony, a Black Hawk helicopter landed on the field from Dobbin Air Force Base.

For the ceremonial first pitch, Congressman Phil Gingrey toed the rubber on the Richard Bell Field mound. Gingrey recognized the Hurricanes on the House of Representatives floor on Friday, April 8.  The words that he said will forever be in the congressional record until the end of time. Just to be recognized by a U. S. Congressman is an incredible feat, espcially for a high school baseball team.

As the Black Hawk put everyone in attendance in awe at its beauty and power and the veterans, public servants and military personnel stood in attention during the National Anthem, it was an amazing sight to be a part of. The Canes all stood on the field sporting camouflage jerseys and hats, and the crowd applauded as they came into the dugout and as Blackhawk took off into the air.

The Canes came out on top of Cedartown in that night to top off the ceremony. It was the very first Military and Public Service night of the school's history and it plans to have many more breathtaking nights to come.
