Usher in School with a Challenge

Show your kids reading can be fun with the Atlanta Hawks Check it Out Reading Challenge.

Despite the heat and humidity outside, summer break is rapidly coming to a close and the collective groaning of sun-tanned, barefooted kids can be heard in back-to-school supply isles nationwide.

But the re-opening of school books and binders doesn’t have to be the least favorite part of a child’s yearly experience. Learning, and especially reading, can be fun. And what better way to reinforce this idea than with a good old fashioned reward?

The Bartow County Library System has a perfect outlet for kids to discover the joy and adventure of reading while having a real-life goal and prize to go with their efforts with the Check it Out Reading Challenge.

Once registered, kids check out and read any five books from the library and redeem a free child’s ticket to a Hawks game.

Activities such as the Check it Out Reading Challenge are not only a great way to get kids interested in reading, but offer a chance to increase self esteem and improve grades and overall achievement in school.

Participants in the Check it Out Reading Challenge have to be registered by Aug. 19 to qualify. Tickets can be redeemed online in September before the Hawks’ season begins in October.

If more than one child per household is participating, register all children at the same time to be sure ticket information is consistent for each child.

The Bartow County Library System offers a multitude of programs for children and teens to take advantage of.

In its Teen section, students can get homework help by taking advantage of search engines to find news, citation rules, research guides, style book guidelines and more.

There is also a comprehensive list of information regarding student job information, colleges, scholarships and links to military websites.

Also, check out the children’s events section for a full list of activities like toddler time, story time, movie showings, folk tales and arts and crafts that take place each week.
