'Oh, The Places We Will Go'

Homecoming 2011 is quickly approaching. The spirit days are chosen and float themes are picked, now its time for 2012 to take throne and continue the long standing tradition.

Fall is in the air. The smell of bonfires, Friday night football games and Halloween can be felt throughout the city of Cartersville. However, for , only one thing is on students' minds: homecoming. Homecoming 2011 is quickly approaching for the highly-anticipating students.

Homecoming week brings a unique unity for all the students of Cartersville High School. From float building, to spirit days to the famous dance, it brings a sense of joy to every class. Homecoming is different because it involves the whole school; every grade is invited.  For instance, some students, such as freshmen, will experience their first homecoming, while seniors will participate for their last time in this long-standing tradition.

Each year the Cartersville High School Student Council consolidates and prepares a sensational week for not only Cartersville High School, but also for the community of Cartersville. The theme of this year's homecoming is "Oh, The Places We Will Go." Each grade chose a particular city throughout the world and will construct their float with commodities from the particular city chosen. The floats will be worked on vigorously throughout the week and will be judged on Thursday to see which class will win. This competition ultimately brings grades closer, and builds friendships and memories that last a lifetime. The floats will parade down Main Street at the Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 14, and the winner will later be announced at the Homecoming football game later that night.

Student Council also comes up with different spirit days themes for the students of Cartersville High School to dress up throughout the week.  This year the days consist of Monday—pajama day, Tuesday—tacky twin day, Wednesday—college day, Thursday—decades day, and Friday—the traditional Purple and Gold day.

Homecoming not only unites the student body, but also the community as well. Without the support and participation of the citizens of Cartersville, homecoming would not be the long-standing tradition it is today.
