Funded by SPLOST, BCSS began building the school at the beginning of 2012. It is more than twice the size of their old school which was over 80 years old. The new facility has 65 classrooms, along with an auxiliary gym plus a media center, cafeteria with a stage and a regular gym.

“The faculty and students are very excited to move into the new school and use the latest technology,” said Principal Brian Knuchel. “The old facility’s wiring couldn’t support the needs of today’s technology.“

The new Adairsville Middle School opens issuing each student a laptop for their everyday use. Students will have electronic textbooks on their laptop. They will be able to take the laptops home to complete their homework. Since there are no textbooks to carry, AMS will not have general lockers. Students will be able to hang their jackets in their homeroom. As BCSS developed the plan for this school, they visited other school systems which operate in the same manner. They found students were more engaged in learning utilizing technology throughout the day. “Using technology gives teachers another resource in the classroom. Today’s students stay more engaged in learning when we incorporate technology. We will have growing pains throughout the year, but increasing student learning and engagement makes it worth it,” commented Dr. Knuchel.

“We appreciate the community for supporting AMS. We’d also like to thank the AMS maintenance and custodial staff plus the Central Office maintenance staff for helping us move into the new facility. They were able to completely move the school in three days,” said Dr. Knuchel.

The school will host an open house for the community and the Bartow County Chamber of Commerce on July 25 from 5-7 p.m. A student open house will be held on Aug. 5.
