Free Shoplifting and Loss Prevention Workshop Set for Oct. 18

The holiday season is right around the corner, and amid the throngs of merry shoppers each year there are also shoplifters. The and the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority are co-sponsoring a workshop on Shoplifting and Loss Prevention designed to help Bartow merchants reduce the amount of theft from their businesses during the holidays.

“The chamber of commerce and DDA have jointly sponsored this workshop in the past and the feedback from merchants showed that it was helpful for them,” said Liz Hood, executive director of Cartersville DDA. “One of the downtown merchants was unaware that switching price tags is a form of shoplifting which may be prosecuted.  Newer merchants may be unsure of when to call the police and how to set up their store to reduce shoplifting.”

“We want to offer workshops which can make an immediate difference in the profitability of local businesses,” explained Joe Harris, president and CEO of the Chamber. “With many small retail businesses depending upon the holiday season to produce up to 40 percent of their revenue for the year, it’s important to find ways to reduce loss. All businesses in Bartow County are invited to attend this free workshop and take the information back to share with their employees.”
