Curing the Homework Blues

Start the school year off on the right foot with one-on-one tutoring at Huntington Learning Center.

It’s no secret that homework time isn’t the favorite part of the average child’s afternoon. That part of the day can be particularly challenging for students and parents when a child battles with even the mildest of learning disabilities or frustrations.

The trained staff members at Huntington Learning Center are experts in their field equipped to deal with particular learning challenges.

Huntington offers tutoring programs for children from kindergarten through 12th grade in subjects ranging from basic math, reading and writing to algebra, study skills and ACT/SAT preparation.

So how can parents decide whether Huntington is right for their child?

“I think when a child has been behind in school or struggling with homework and after parents have tried everything else and it hasn’t worked, they come to us. But if parents notice something is wrong before grades even begin to fall, they should get it fixed as soon as possible,” Huntington Learning Center owner Ann Burger said.

“Also, parents who think their kids need to be accelerated in school or who have children who maybe have a particular school in mind and need very high scores come to us for ACT and SAT preparations.”

Burger said that once children are enrolled at Huntington, they can count on meeting with a teacher who cares about them and is ready to provide the one-on-one attention they need.

“We’re kind of like personal trainers for academic skills,” she said.

Many students who enroll at Huntington are dealing with side effects of attention deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and benefit from having all attention centered on them and their particular learning needs. Burger said parents need to understand that a learning disability doesn’t mean a child can’t learn, but simply that he needs extra time and attention to reach his potential.

Tutoring is offered Monday through Saturday, and Huntington is willing to schedule tutoring sessions that are convenient for the child and parent.

Payment plans are available to fit families' budgets.

“If you can afford $100 a month, you can afford Huntington Learning Center,” Burger said.
