Cartersville Schools Surpass State Average on CRCT

topped the state average on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests in all five content areas for third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades, the Georgia Department of Education announced.

Students in third, fourth and fifth grades at ’ Taylorsville Elementary surpassed the state averages in all five CRCT grade-level sections. ’s fourth and fifth graders also recorded better scores than the state average in the five content areas.

The CRCT measures third- to eighth-grade students’ abilities in reading, English/language arts, math, science and social studies.

Students in third, fifth and eighth grade must meet or exceed the grade requirements on the CRCT in reading to advance, according to state law. Fifth- and eighth-grade students also need to meet or exceed expectations on the CRCT in mathematics to move on to the next grade.

third graders improved their average scores in four of the five content areas, highlighted by a 4.2 percent increase in English/language arts to 96.7 percent.

Cartersville’s fourth graders also registered improvements in four of five content areas, improving the most in math with a 6.4 percent jump to 91.3 percent.

The fifth grade at Carterville Elementary raised its math score 15.6 percent to 96.7 percent.

sixth graders boosted their social studies score 18.1 percent to 84.1 percent and their math score 8.3 percent to 85.5 percent.

The seventh graders at Cartersville Middle improved their scores in all five content areas with the highest increase coming in math with a 9.7 percent jump to 95.8 percent.

The Cartersville Middle eighth graders posted better scores in four of the five content areas with science having the largest jump at 5.5 percent to 75 percent.

Bartow County’s Taylorsville Elementary third graders posted scores of at least 94 percent meeting or exceeding the standard in the five content areas, including recording 98.5 percent in reading and English/language arts.

Allatoona third graders improved their reading scores 8.6 percent to a county-best 98.8 percent meeting or exceeding the standard. increased their social studies scores 12.3 percent to 79.7 percent. Emerson students raised their math scores 11 percent to 89.3 percent.

The science scores for Pine Log third graders plummeted 18.2 percent to 67.2 percent and their social studies scores dropped 16.7 percent to 64.2 percent. Kingston students’ science scores declined 16.3 percent to 69.4 percent.

fourth graders bettered their math scores 17.4 percent to 95.7 percent. White and students each improved their social studies scores 17.2 percent with White’s score going to 87 percent and Mission Road’s to 73.3 percent.

Euharlee fourth-grade scores fell 11.2 percent in English/language arts to 82.6 percent and 7.9 percent in reading to 85.1 percent.

Kingston fifth graders raised their average math score 17 percent to 93.5 percent. Euharlee math scores jumped 17 percent to 96.6 percent and White Elementary students turned in a county-best 100 percent score in math.

Adairsville Elementary fifth-grade students saw their scores fall in four of five content areas. The class’ science score dropped 16.4 percent to 65.6 percent and in social studies the average score fell 15.6 percent to 60.8 percent.

Woodland Middle sixth graders improved their reading score 9.2 percent to a district-best 96 percent. Adairsville Middle students raised their average reading score as well, improving by 6.9 percent to 93.1 percent. The Adairsville class also bettered its math score 7.6 percent to 77.4 percent.

South Central seventh graders raised their scores in all five content areas. The biggest increases came in science with a whopping 23.8 percent jump to 88 percent and in social studies with a 20.2 percent to 85.5 percent. Adairsville students saw their average social studies score fall 11.5 percent to 60.3 percent.

Adairsville eighth graders improved their average math score 18.4 percent to 85.9 percent. South Central’s math score fell 9.9 percent to 59.4 percent meeting or exceeding the standard.
