Cartersville Schools' Chason Will Not Run for Re-Election

Both Linda Benton and Pat Broadnax plan to run for their current school board seats.

Tim Chason, chairman of the curriculum committee for , announced on Monday that he will not be seeking re-election for his Ward 3 seat this year.

"This is my eighth year on school board, and this will be my last year on school board," said Chason. "I have served two terms and I've certainly enjoyed it and look forward to some new leadership coming into the position."

Chason said he wanted to announce his plans to step down since qualifying was coming up in two weeks.

"I wanted to give the opportunity to decide if [anyone would] like to run as part of this precinct, so I wanted to make sure that it's out there now that I will not be running for the position," added Chason.

Qualifying will begin on Aug. 29 at 8:30 a.m. and will run into September. Qualifying will be located on second floor of and requires a $35 qualifying fee.

Cartersville City School Board President Linda Benton called Chason's leaving a "huge loss" for the board.

"I've been here the entire time he's been here and we'll miss him greatly," Benton said. 

Two other board positions will also be up for election this year, including Benton's at-large seat and Pat Broadnax's Ward 4 seat.

Benton and Broadnax both said they plan to run for re-election on Monday.

All three board seats will be voted on in the general election of the City of Cartersville on Nov. 8. A run-off date is scheduled for Dec. 6.
