Cartersville Baseball Team Headed to Playoffs?

Canes win at Turner Field on Saturday and then loose a nail-bitter on Monday to Ringgold.

The Hurricanes baseball team is still at the top of the region. The Canes started their week off last Saturday with a 12-2 win against La Grange at Turner Field.

The Canes rallied in the second inning by going up 7-0 from a Ben Venters RBI double and a Kendall Hawkins two-run double.  Then in the fifth inning, the Canes scored with a Tyler Will sacrifice fly and two RBI singles from both Hunter Cochran and Kendall Hawkins. Then in the sisth, Connor Justus topped of the inning by scoring the 12th and final run for the Canes helping them go up 12-0.  

Then on Monday the Canes faced the region rivals Allatoona Buccaneers and lost 2-1. The game was a top-knotch nail-bitter and went all the way to the last out of the seventh inning.  The Canes started off strong in the first inning with an RBI double by Ben Venters scoring Connor Justus. The Canes would not score again.

The Bucs then scored in the bottom of the first to tie the game. The Bucs then scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to go up 2-1, which would be the final score. Ben Venters, Luke Daniel and Colin Bennett are all credited will hits. 

Though the Canes lost to Allatoona, they are still in first place in the region above Ringgold and then Allatoona. They will stay in first unless Ringgold loses one of their last two games of the season, which will then make Allatoona first above Cartersville and then Ringgold.

The first place team is guaranteed the first two rounds of the playoffs at home; the playoffs will begin next week.
