Schools to Share Assistant Principals

Bartow Schools released the actions taken at Wednesday's called meeting.

Three assistant principals will be shared among six schools during the upcoming school year in an apparent effort to save money.

While only changes in were announced immediately following a Wednesday called meeting, the school board office has now released all the actions taken during an executive session regarding personnel. The list is attached to this article.

Superintendent John Harper told The Daily Tribune News he "wanted people hear [the changes] from [him] before they saw it online or read it from the [newspaper]," according to the report.

In a Friday phone interview with Cartersville Patch, Harper did not say why the information was not released after the meeting, but said the "media doesn't always get taken care of first," in reference to our efforts to gather the information yesterday. He said some employees are on vacation and out of the office.

The assistant principal changes affect only one school in Cartersville — . Wanda Westberry will split her duties between Mission Road and Taylorsville Elementary.

In addition to a number of administrative, certified and classified changes and transfers, leaders accepted the resignations of several teachers and paraprofessionals, including an Emerson Elementary School P.E. teacher.

The board of Kathryn Gentry, with Larry Parker and Wanda Cagle-Gray voting against the measure, according to the newspaper.

Harper said the two board members simply were "not wanting to accept the resignation" of Gentry, who had decided to resign, and added no details. The list attached to this article, which was prepared by the school system, references Gentry's temporary employment pending a criminal records check satisfactory to the administration.
