Bartow Schools Propose 13 Percent Tax Increase

The Bartow County School Board is proposing to increase its tax rate from 17.137 mills to 19.40 mills.

Bartow County residents may soon find themselves paying more school property taxes.

The Bartow County School Board has tentatively adopted a millage rate that will require an increase in property taxes by 13.21 percent, the district said in a press release.

Bartow resident are encouraged to attend three upcoming public hearings that will be held at the school system's central offices, located at 65 Gilreath Road in Cartersville.

The first two meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 and the last hearing is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at the same location. 

The proposed increase will bring the millage rate from 17.137 to 19.40 mills, an increase of 2.263 mills. 

The district said a house worth $100,000 would pay about $86 more in taxes while a home worth $275,000 will see its property tax bill rise by about $249. 

The School Board is set to vote on the proposed increase during its meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 30.
