Bartow Schools Gear Up for First Day

In addition to welcoming students back for the Aug. 3 start, the board approved several items during its business meeting.

Superintendent John Harper welcomed back the for students during the school system’s business meeting on Monday.

“I don’t know what happened to the summer, but as you start getting older, time goes by faster,” said Harper.

Harper also announced that for all Bartow County Schools.

Also at the meeting:

  • The board approved the revised 2011-2012 school calendar, which includes the five furlough days. The furlough days for the 2011-2012 are: Oct. 6, April 28 and 29, and May 22 and 23. Harper said the furlough days affect pre- and post-planning but will not student instructional days.
  • Harper said that millage rates for the county are still being discussed and the board should have a final report next month.
  • Executive Director of the Bartow Education Foundation Dot Frasier congratulated two county bus drivers for placing among the top 10 in state competitions. Frasier said that Bartow County was the only school district to have two bus drivers place among the top 10. Driver Stacy Flowers placed fifth in the school bus state road computation testing; Melanie Paulin placed ninth. See how they placed among the rest.
  • Frasier also honored Melinda Moe, former principal of Cloverleaf Elementary, on her retirement. Moe announced her plans to retire in last June.
