Widening of Rockmart Highway Begins Soon

Georgia Department of Transportation officials say an easier and safer commute is in the works outside Cartersville in Bartow County.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials say an easier and safer commute is in the works for motorists who travel Rockmart Highway outside Cartersville in Bartow County. 

Construction work could begin soon on the widening oState 113, or Rockmart Highway, in south Bartow. GDOT awarded a $17 million contract for a construction project that will include 3.77 miles of widening and reconstruction, beginning west of Taft Road and extending to east Old Alabama Road in Bartow County.

The project also includes the construction of three bridges and their approaches, located within its limits. It's scheduled to be complete by the end of December 2014, at a construction cost of $16,920,379.
