3rd Throws Hat for Tax Commissioner

The third candidate to run for the office, Vicki Tatum Beck has announced a bid for Bartow County tax commissioner.

A Republican, Beck says she'll qualify for the July 31 primary. and also have announced intentions to seek the office. Current Tax Commissioner VaLenda Bailey is retiring.

Beck says she's familiar with the day-to-day operations of the Tax Commissioner, having spent five of her nine years employed by the county in the office. For four years, she's worked in the .

"From her direct experience in the , she is aware of the job requirements, making her the perfect candidate," the press release says.

In the banking industry prior to courthouse employment, Beck at First Union National Bank was recognized numerous times for excellent customer service skills, according to the release.

“Under Valenda Bailey, the Tax Commissioner’s Office has a strong tradition of customer service. I will continue that tradition of service to the people of Bartow County,” Beck said in the press release.

Outside work, Beck says she's dedicated her life to her family and 's music ministry. 

Children's Fifth Grade Choral leader and part of Worship Choir and Praise Team Beck, a volunteer, has directed several choir musicals, served on Finance and the Decorating committees and traveled with children on mission tours.

Born and raised in Bartow County, Vicki Beck has been married to John Beck, a local Pandel employee, for 39 years. They have a son, Jonathan Beck, and daughter, Leslie, who is married to Brian Shoemaker.

Beck is “Gic Gic” to grandchildren, Ryan McCrary and Harper Shoemaker.

She is the daughter of Urby and Jean Wilson Tatum and the daughter-in-law of Betty Lusk Beck and the late Grady Beck, all of Cartersville.
