Restaurants Appeal Alcohol Penalties

Also on the agenda for Cartersville City Council are zoning matters related to the renovation of 100 Cook Street.

Two undercover investigations by local and state law enforcement netted seven local restaurants that either pleaded guilty or were found guilty of selling alcohol to minors. Now three of the seven are appealing related decisions by .

, , and were each charged with violations in a investigation while , and were netted in Georgia Department of Revenue’s probe.

Tarascos Tacos & Wings, Hilton Garden Inn and Knight’s 1889 are asking for reduced penalties. City councilmen are set to consider those moves at Thursday’s 7 p.m. meeting. The work session is set for 6 p.m.

Each of the seven were given a $2,500 fine and three years of probation.

In addition to alcohol-related matters and a number of purchases, the council is set to decide on an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance that would allow apartments above or behind commercial uses in one building.

The applicant, John Lewis, wants to revitalize and renovate 100 Cook Street to house apartments and businesses.

Lewis also is seeking a special use permit for the vacant 1930s building on more than 4 acres at the intersection of South Erwin and Cook streets to allow apartments above or behind professional offices and businesses excluding package stores in the same building.
