Ongoing Problems at Local Day Care?

In its latest state monitoring visit, Kids Junction School Zone did not meet state supervision and discipline requirements related to safety.

One day after a worker in connection with severe scratches to an infant's face, state authorities inspected the facility, determining it did not meet or partially met several requirements.

Lacreasha Denise Buggs was arrested June 21 and charged with reckless conduct in connection with the incident at the local day care known for its unusual hours. Police say she was caring for the .

In the June 22 monitoring visit by state authorities, an inspector determined Kids Junction failed to meet a requirement that children be supervised at all times. The complete report of the visit is attached as a .pdf file to this article.

The center's staff failed to adequately supervise children, who were climbing and jumping on and off tables, running around and trying to leave the classroom, and even breaking a chair, according to the report.

In addition to other areas in which the facility either failed to meet or partially met state requirements, it fell short in properly disciplining students.

According to the report, staff in one room "jerked and roughly handled 2-year-old children by the arm." The inspector reported observing staff repeatedly jerk children off the tables to the floor by their arms, and said one child was thrown 1 to 2 feet onto the floor.

Local Mom Says Facility Should be Closed

A local mom whose son was allegedly choked by another child at said the day care should be shut down.

In March 2010, the family reported the incident to the . A copy of the report is attached to this article, and alleges Tiffany Kirkland's son, who at the time was in the pre-k program, was strangled with a nylon ribbon.

"The incident happened earlier in the morning and they did not call us until about 1 or so in the afternoon," Tiffany Kirkland said in an email to Cartersville Patch, adding the also was involved in the investigation. "The teacher said that she became worried when the marks kept getting worse.

"The facility suspended the other student pending the investigation. I signed a form allowing him to come back due to his living conditions that he was in at the time," she said. "His education was just as important to me as my child's.

"It was neglect on the teacher's part for not supervising the classroom while, I was told by my son, they were on Facebook. I never heard anything else in reference to the case or the final decisions made," Kirkland added. "This facility should be shut down ASAP!"
