Meet the Candidate: Travis Popham

The Realtor is running for Cartersville School Board Post 3, which will be vacated by current board member Tim Chason.

Cartersville’s general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, and only two school board seats are contested. Candidates will be introduced on Cartersville Patch. Today, we have Post 3 school board candidate Travis Popham, who is running against Clift Dempsey for the seat Tim Chason will vacate.

Born and raised in Cartersville, Popham, a 1987 graduate of , has been married to his wife, Candace, for 12 years. The two have a 9-year-old daughter, Ashley, who is in the fourth grade at . In the real estate business for 19 years, he is co-owner of Professional Realty Group Inc.

“I am running for school board because I want to be a part of the continued excellence that the is and has always been known for. My motivation is the continued quality of education for my daughter and the other students of Cartersville Schools,” Popham said. “I know, because of the economy, the schools will face challenges ahead. With my past board experience, I feel that I can be an asset to the future growth of the Cartersville City Schools. In short I believe in this school system. I became a Hurricane in first grade and am proud to still be a Hurricane today.”

In January, the Cartersville City Council the unexpired term of Robert Ed Hicks on the Planning Commission and Popham said he would like to continue his work on that board. He also is past president of the Cartersville-Bartow County Habitat for Humanity, past president of the Bartow Area Board of Realtors and past board member for .
