Meet the Candidate: Clift Dempsey

The local business owner is running for Cartersville School Board Post 3, which will be vacated by current board member Tim Chason.

Cartersville’s general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, and only two school board seats are contested. Candidates will be introduced on Cartersville Patch. Today, we have Post 3 school board candidate Clift Dempsey, who is running against for the seat Tim Chason will vacate.

Owner of Dempsey Funeral Services of Georgia, a Cartersville-based company that includes three perpetual-care cemeteries and a commercial land care company, Clift Dempsey is the third generation in his family to own and operate cemeteries.

Dempsey hopes to add member to his workload and says he and his family already are heavily involved in the school system. Married to wife, Melanie, for nearly 18 years, the couple has four children, three of whom attend .

“I chose to run for the Cartersville City School Board because we must make sure we place the ‘Students First,’” Dempsey said. “By doing so we can build a great foundation under them through faculty, staff and administration. Then each student would receive a quality education in an environment that would promote higher educational opportunities or prepare them to enter into a career to live a successful and productive life.”

Dempsey currently serves on the Cartersville Schools Foundation Board, the Bartow-Polk Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board and the Georgia Cemetery Association Board. In 2006, he was appointed by then governor Sonny Perdue to a six-year term on the newly formed State Board of Cemeterians and elected the first chairman. His past board seats also include the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce Board and several business-related associations.
