City Eyes iPads, Software for Firefighters

Cartersville's city council meets tonight at 6 for a work session and 7 for regular business at City Hall.

City leaders tonight are expected to consider the purchase of 11 iPads and an upgraded software system for and its transition to .

The system that maintains all of the department's records on incidents, inspections, hydrants and equipment, in addition to staffing and scheduling, is the second most used in the city.

Fire officials in the field would be able to go "live" and access pre-incident data during an emergency. Inspectors would see less man-hours required for dataΒ  entry and the ability to deliver results live in the field at the point of contact with the customer, to save time and improve efficiency.Β

Firefighter safety would get a boost with real-time information such as GIS
locations, weather and occupancy data. Officials also could use Skype to send live video back to an emergency operations center.
