Country Club Drive at U.S. 41 To See Improvements

Cartersville city councilmen approved a deal with Georgia Power and Bartow County to condemn the property to allow for intersection and road work.

In what's known as a "friendly condemnation," at their first council meeting of September approved an agreement with Georgia Power to improve the intersection at U.S. 41 and Country Club Drive.

Officials say the intersection as it is now is insufficient to handle Georgia Power truck and other traffic. The city condemned the property and will provide property so that Georgia Power can complete the work; the company also will foot the bill.

The council approved a related memo of understanding with Georgia Power outlining the agreement. Officials say the is in agreement with the deal and is being adequately compensated.

In other action, the council:

  • Approved an annual Supplemental Power Subscription agreement with MEAG for 2012. The city will sell excess capacity next year.
  • Approved the county-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identifies various hazards within Bartow County and outlines a strategy to mitigate damage should these hazardous incidents occur.
  • Approved the purchase of a GMC Sierra 3500 from in the amount of $29,528.90.
  • Approved payment for emergency maintenance performed on a Water Department generator by Yancey Power Systems in the amount of $5,520.92.Β 
  • Approved the purchase of sodium bi-sulfite for Water Pollution Control Plant chlorine removal in the amount ofΒ  $5,657.62.

The council meets again Sept. 15.
