Cartersville Green Lights Episcopal Church Expansion

Episcopal Church of the Ascension plans to do some renovations and additions to its facilities.

The Cartersville City Council on Thursday voted to approve a request from a local church to expand its foot print.

The council unanimously approved a request from Episcopal Church of the Ascension, located at 205 West Cherokee Avenue, for a special use permit, which would allow them to make repairs and expand some of its facilities.

The property sits on 1.28 acres and is currently zoned single-family residential.

According to city documents, the buildings and house on the property were built at various times in the past, and some are over 100 years old.

The church plans to demolish some of the newer parts of the buildings, make repairs and renovations and expand some of the older parts of other buildings. They also plan to construct an addition to one of its buildings.

While the total building footprint won't change much, the plans will allow the church better maximize its space and allow for greater accessibility for all attendees.
