“We function to reduce the fear of crime and assist senior citizens,” said TRIAD co-chairman and sheriff's office investigator William Rios. “We try to share information with seniors about things that might be going on in the community so they can be informed and be careful. We try to prevent fraud and home invasions by keeping them aware of patterns and share information to keep our seniors aware and protected. ”

The TRIAD had to acquire the Bartow County sheriff’s permission to act within the community, and outside of the county there are national and state levels of TRIAD as well.

“We try to educate anyone who is a senior as well as anyone who works with seniors,” said Rios. “We work very closely with the senior center.”

Friday, TRIAD is sponsoring Gala Friday at the Beavers Drive Senior Center with an Independence Celebration complete with booths, prizes, snacks and drinks.

The celebration will take place between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. at 33 Beavers Drive in Cartersville.

Trustworthy speakers and vendors from the community providing services and information pertinent to local seniors’ wellbeing will be included in the event.

“We want to reach seniors and let them a have a good time, too,” said Rios. “It’s a patriotic theme, and it’s an opportunity to dress up and have fun and learn. We want to let seniors know that the community is here and we haven’t forgotten about them. We care about them.”

Bartow County seniors are invited to attend the event free of charge, while seniors-to-be are asked to donate $1 at the door to help cover the cost of the event.

“We’ve been around for 3 years trying to get the word out,” said Rios. “This will be the fourth event we’ve sponsored on a Gala Day at the Senior Center. We’re in the process of getting our website approved and are always accepting volunteers and donations.”
