Women Taking Swings 'Mutual Combat,' Man Snatches 30-Pack in Crazy Crime

A few police reports chronicling strange happenings in Cartersville and Bartow County in the last day or so caught our eyes at Cartersville Patch. Here are the stories:

Women's Argument Leads to 'Mutual Combat'

Two Southern Yarn Dyers employees said they don't like each other, but it's what they allegedly did that landed the pair at the Cartersville Police Department needing bond.

Anitra Laverne Carter, 38, of Massell Drive in Cartersville, and Eva Louise Thacker, 63, of Acworth, were "swinging at each other in mutual combat," said a man who witnessed the Tuesday incident in the driveway of Old Mill Farm, according to the incident report, attached.

Thacker told police Carter had been bullying her for sometime and tried to get her to pull over after the two left work about 3:15 p.m. Thacker, who said she thought Carter only wanted to talk about their differences, said "somehow the encounter turned into an altercation," according to the report.

She had an abrasion on her left hand and a red mark on the left side of her face, police noted.

Another witness told police the two women were arguing and Carter taunted Thacker by saying, "Hit me, then. Hit me." That's when Thacker grabbed Carter by the throat and started choking her, according to the witness.

Both women were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, processed at the police station and released on property bonds.

What the two were fighting about is unclear.

Man Snatches 30-Pack from Store's Beer Cooler

A quick shoplifter grabbed 30 beers Tuesday night and managed to get away in a truck with a blue bed and white cab, according to the CPD report, attached.

The Kangaroo clerk said the African-American man in his 50's came in the store about 11:40, ran straight to the beer cooler, grabbed a 30-pack of Bud Light, ran back to his truck and fled the area.

The beer would have cost about $25.

Suspected DUI Driver Stopped by Police Hits 'Children at Play' Sign

An alleged drunk driver struck a "Children at Play" sign after police tried to stop him from driving on the wrong side of the road.

A Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy on patrol Tuesday about 11:35 p.m. spotted the blue, 1996 Geo Prizm on Adairsville's Hall Station Road, allegedly in the wrong lane, according to the incident report, attached.

The deputy reports he turned on his emergency lights, but the Prizm continued toward his patrol car.

"As the vehicle approached, I pulled my vehicle off the roadway to keep from being struck," the deputy wrote. "I then pulled behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, at which time the vehicle entered into a parking lot, striking a plastic, 'Children at Play' sign."

Following a series of field sobriety tests, police arrested the driver, Steve Phillip Post, 63, of Adairsville. He was taken to the hospital for a blood test and jailed on two charges: DUI-multiple substances and driving in the opposite lane of travel.

Post allegedly said he had not anything to drink in the previous 24 hours and only took blood pressure medication.
