Woman Tries to Shoplift $350 in Groceries

A woman tried to leave a local store without paying for the $350 of groceries in her cart was stopped just before loading the food into her car, but was able to jump in and drive off, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report.

A Walmart employee Saturday about 2:40 p.m. noticed the Caucasian female in her 40's as she walked out—bypassing the cash registers—with a buggy full of food. A security guard caught up with the woman, who was pushing the shopping cart in the parking lot.

He told deputies when he approached her, the woman let go of the cart and jumped into an older model, maroon Cadillac sedan, locking the door.

Although the security guard knocked on her car window and asked her to roll it down, the woman gestured "no" and backed out of a parking space. Her image was captured on surveillance video, the woman sped out of the parking lot toward Highway 41, according to the report.
