A witness said the shooting was accidental, but police are searching for the man believed to have pulled the trigger and say he'll face criminal charges.

Updated

The woman who was shot in the face at a Cartersville motel early Saturday is in critical but stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, CPD Capt. Mark Camp said.

Authorities have neither identified her nor the man suspected in the shooting, but indicate the two were not residents of the Courtesy Inn in Cartersville, where the shooting happened about 5:30 a.m.

"It appears that the victim and suspect were just friends and were visiting" the motel, Camp said. The woman apparently was shot once.

Investigators are looking for the man suspected of shooting the woman, but aren't releasing his name at this time, Camp said.

 Original Report

Cartersville police say a shooting early this morning injured a woman at a local motel.

The woman, who is about 24 years old, was shot in the face by a man about 5:30 a.m. at Courtesy Inn, an extended-stay motel on U.S. Highway 411 in Cartersville, Capt. Mark Camp said in an email.

The alleged shooter was not there when officers arrived, and the victim was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Camp could not say in what condition or comment on her condition later Saturday.

Camp said a witness, who was in the room during the shooting, told police it was accidental. But authorities are searching for the alleged shooter and say investigators will issue warrants for his arrest by the end of the day.
